The Summer Sunset Story

There is something about a sunset after a long summer day. That moment when the sun begins to go down, the day begins to cool and the sky catches that warm glow, as though the sun is expelling the last of it’s golden goodness for the day. For a night owl like myself though, the sunset on a summer day is only just the beginning. I come alive when the sun goes down and that golden glow against a clear blue sky feels like a wake up call to me.

These weren’t the thoughts running through my mind when I first started working on what would be our first official drop after Mode by Taylor returns from hiatus. Infact, I picked our orange and blue colour story because I wanted a colour palette that screamed summer, and nothing better than the orange of the sun and the blue of the sky and the sea. It was thoughts of blue skies, and the hot sunshine and the waves on the beach that guided my hands as I began to sketch and plan.

So why is the drop not called summer afternoons or summer days. Because, as I mentioned earlier, I come alive at sunset. And apparently so does Mode by Taylor. Let me explain.

This brand was initially started in 2020, right before the pandemic really started to ravage the UK. I stepped in to that year full of hope and optimism, excited to launch this brand after having closed down my custom and bespoke sewing company.Unfortunately, by mid 2021, due to the pandemic, and other personal and family issues, it was very apparent that this brand was quite turning into what I had hoped it would become. But I soldiered on. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the sun began to set and I made the hard decision to close the whole thing down towards the end of 2022. The Sun had set, or so it felt. Howvever, I just couldn’t let it go. I guess it was taking a step back from it that revived me. But I was ck in that moment, when the sun lingers and the skies if filled with that warm glow. And it revived something in me. 2023 became the year of experimenting and not being afraid to fail. I tried a different variation of what Mode by Taylor could look like practically every season. And stepping into thquarter of 2024, it felt like I had finally got it right It was time to go again. Closing down one chapter of the brand, revived me and woke me up to a new chapter, just like the sunset gives this night owl a new lease on the day.

I didn’t really think of this until I finished the first two samples that would be in this drop and looked at them side by side. I felt refreshed, renewed, Like, i’m going again, I’m doing this again. It ended but i’m beginning again. the title, SUMMER SUNSET.

And I’m hoping that that freshness and newness hits every woman sees or orders a piece from this drop. I’m hoping that you feel good and renewed and like you’re rediscovering yourself again when you wear a piece from this drop. I’m hoping that the pieces in this drop make you feel powerful, like you can face the world with strength. And above all, I hope it makes you feel like the sunset is just another chance to begin again.

Check out the video below for more on the design process of the drop. And thank you, for reading, for clicking, for liking, for buying, for just being here. Because, if you weren’t here, Mode by Taylor would be looking at another sunset, one that may very well be final.
