The story

It all started with one woman's journey and a desire to level up. A desire to build outwardly, the life she imagined inwardly. And to create a wardrobe that reflected the strong new direction she was taking her life in. And out of that wardrobe came a brand, a brand aimed at women who already are or are becoming strong and powerful. Women who are leveling up, building the lives of their dream and manifesting all their strength and power. Women on a journey to become everything they could be.

Juxtaposing elements of modesty, timelessness and sensuality with a bold high end aesthetic, this is a brand aimed at the woman who doesn't need to shout her power because it shows. This is a brand for the woman who is learning herself, becoming herself and loving herself. This is a brand that celebrates the power of women and builds the power of women.

Following on from the original vision, Mode by Taylor is now a fashion brand with the aim of empowering women through clothing and fashion. Founder and lead designer, AJ Taylor’s philosophy is simple- clothes can help a woman be her best and find her way in life and that's the belief system this brand is based on.

This vision breaks down in 2 ways. Firstly by creating beautiful clothing that makes Mode by Taylor customers look good and feel great. The idea is to create timeless, valuable pieces that you will wear over and over again, looking and feeling great every time but that will help you represent your best self and values. Values to be a better human, be kinder to others around you and to leave the world a better place.

We represent these values firstly by creating timeless, functional, flattering and non trendy designs. Our focus when it comes to product is to make clothing that works well and for a long time in your wardrobe. Pieces that flatter the woman, pieces that you will wear for years and years to come without them loosing their lustre or falling out of style. Whether that is our wardrobe staples range, which is full of versatile everyday wear pieces that will work overtime in your wardrobe and elevate your style or our occasionwear pieces, designed to last, taking you through a variety of occasions and ensuring that you’re standing out every time you wear them.

We then source and use good quality, made to last fabrics and materials in our pieces so that our customers can wear them again and again and again. Mode by Taylor pieces are handmade/machine sewn by AJ herself and a small group of seamstresses that she works with from time to time. We buy enough fabric to make small quantities of each piece, making them limited in availabiliy. Most of our pieces are made to order only when the order is placed. Our ready to ship items are made is small batches, (we only make 50 pieces or less per item at once). Our studio is based in SouthWales, where we currently conduct our entire process, from designing through production to packaging our customers’ orders. In so doing, we keep our process simple, sustainable and cut out middlemen, allowing us to keep our pieces high quality and still affordable for our clients.

We are currently working on building a production facility in Cardiff where we will employ people and use systems that will help us to produce more sustainably in ways that are good for the environment and helpful to the community.

The second way we practice our brand philosophy is by using the backend of our business to create jobs and training opportunities. We aim to do this by employing and paying above a full living wage to our team of seamstresses, assistants, photographers and anybody else who works with our brand, most of whom are women. Our main production facility and design studio is currently planned to be sustainable as well as work with local talent in the Cardiff, Barry and South Wales community. We are also currently looking into training programs and scholarship opportunities for those in our community who may be interested in pursuing career paths in fashion, design and production but may not have access through our Swatsons Charity Foundation. Furthermore, through our Swatsons Foundation, we make regular donations to charities in Ghana and the UK that are focused on women.
